Manifesto
I believe in the value of theatre and the power of words.
Playwrights articulate the “now,” inviting us to see the human experience from multiple perspectives and, at times, creating real change: Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, exposing the tyranny of McCarthyism through the historic frame of the Salem witch trials, is the classic example. More recently, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Gloria illuminated the dark heart of modern consumerism with razor-sharp wit. Suzie Miller’s Prima Facie confronted the devastating impact of the legal system on women in cases of sexual assault.
Each work demonstrates theatre’s power to provoke, transform, and awaken.
At a time when our world faces major challenges, when there is uncertainty and conflict, when hope, at times, feels distant, we must tell the stories that matter.
In this same moment — when the volume, capacity, and complexity of digital communication increases daily — theatre continues to offer a space for community to gather, to focus, and to engage in a shared experience of discovery.
